Tokyo Olympics: India's Dutee Chand fails to qualify for women's 200m semifinals after finishing 7th

Dutee registered a season's best timing of 23.85 seconds to finish seventh and last in Heat 4 which was topped by Christine Mboma of Namibia with a timing of 22.11 seconds. Indian sprinter Dutee Chand continued her disappointing run at the Olympics as she failed to qualify for the women's 200m semifinals after finishing last in her heat in Tokyo on Monday.

The Indian finished last in her heat. Sprinter Dutee Chand produced a below-par performance to make an exit from the Olympic Games in Tokyo on Friday. However, it was Dutee Chand’s best performance this season. Dutee clocked 23.85 seconds, however, she was nowhere near her personal best 23.00. USA’s Gabrielle Thomas clocked 21.61 seconds to win the Heat 4. Namibia’s Christine Mboma finishes second with 22.67 seconds, while Brazil’s Cristina Vitoria Rosa took third place. Dutee has qualified for the Olympics in the 200m race on the basis of world rankings.

Top three finishers from each of the seven heats and the next three fastest qualify for the semifinals. Dutee, who has a personal best of 23 seconds, ended at 38th overall out of 41 competitors. Earlier on Friday, Dutee failed to progress to the semifinals of the women's 100m event as well, finishing seventh in her heat with a timing of 11.54s.
