Bhavinaben Patel Loses in straight sets against China's Zhou Ying
India's para table tennis player Bhavinaben Hasmukhbhai Patel lost to China's Zhou Ying by 3-0 in her opening match of Group A in women's Singles - Class 4 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium - Table 5 on Wednesday. 2008 and 2012 Olympic champion, Zhou Ying overwhelmed Bhavina Patel in straight sets by 3-0 (11-3, 11-9, 11-2) in just 18 minutes.
Although the Indian showed some resistance and rallied better than at the start of the game, the two-time Paralympic champion won the first game 11-3. The World No1 continued from where she had left off in the first game, and took the first point against serving in the second game. Bhavina pulled one back and was playing much better in the second game, as she didn’t let the Chinese get away.
The Chinese wasted no time whatsoever as she dominated the proceedings from the word go and dominated the first set by 11-3. The Indian paddler showed more resistance in the second game but Ying held her nerves better to claim a close 11-9 victory. The Indian remained close to Ying with a score of 4-6. After a good run of points, Bhavina further leveled the score at 6-6. However, some good service points helped Zhou restore the lead at 8-6.
Ying further showed her class to win the third game 11-2 and wrap up the match 3-0. The Chinese paddler didn’t allow the debutant any inroads into the contest. However, the Indian will be looking to come back stronger after a tough Paralympic debut in her next group match.
