Barbados Tridents To Rebrand Themselves As Barbados Royals Following IPL Franchise Takeover

Two-time Caribbean Premier League champions, the Barbados-based franchise will change its name from ‘Barbados Tridents’ to ‘Barbados Royals’ following a deal that sees the owners of the Rajasthan Royals franchise, EM Sporting Holding Ltd, buying a major stake in the franchise.

The IPL footprint in the CPL has expanded further with the owners of the Rajasthan Royals buying a majority stake in the Barbados Tridents, which will now be known as the Barbados Royals. The Royals Sports Group are the third IPL franchise to own a team in the CPL after Red Chillies Entertainment, owners of the Kolkata Knight Riders, bought the Trinbago Knight Riders in 2015, and KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited, the consortium that owns the Punjab Kings, bought the St Lucia Zouks last year.

“We are extremely excited about the partnership with Manoj and the Rajasthan Royals family, which will further advance cricket in Barbados and the region.” Manish Patel, principal of the Barbados franchise said.

Meanwhile, Manoj Badale, the Royals Sports Group Chairperson and the lead owner of Rajasthan Royals, has also commented on the development.

“We are delighted to have signed this deal with Manish Patel, to acquire a majority stake in the Barbados CPL franchise. We are extremely grateful to the Barbados government for their continued support, and we look forward to making a positive impact on both cricket and tourism for the country. We have ambitious plans for the Royals brand globally, and this is an important strategic step.” said Badale.

Barbados Royals have crowned CPL champions in 2014 and 2019 and they will be looking to make a hat-trick of titles in the upcoming season under their new name. They will kickstart their CPL 2021 campaign against St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots at Warner Park, Basseterre on August 2
